Innovation in Initial Teacher Education. Emerging trends, issues and recommendations

01/04/2019

Innovation in Initial Teacher Education. Emerging trends, issues and recommendations are published, drawing on the work of the EC-funded Knowledge Alliance ITELab project.

The publication shows an increasing focus on initial teacher education (ITE) in education and policy and a blurring of boundaries between universities and schools in some countries.

Issues cited include the lack of opportunities for student teachers to practice digital pedagogical skills in their teaching practice.

Among the recommendations comprised in the briefing paper, it is worth mentioning helping student teachers appreciate the value of experimentation with digital pedagogical skills as part of their ITE, providing top-down leadership on the importance of ITE or encouraging more joint ITE actions between universities and schools.
